    Arrested:

    Vincent Virgilio
    DOB: 7/17/1989
    Riverview

Charges:  DUI with Serious Injury, Driving with License Canceled, Suspended or Revoked, Grand Theft Motor Vehicle and Leaving Scene of a Crash with Serious Injury

    Details:

A drunk driver caused a head-on collision on Monday evening while driving stolen vehicle. Vincent Virgilio was driving a 1997 Dodge Dakota truck, just east of the intersection of Bloomingdale Avenue and Watson Road, when he swerved into the eastbound lanes and struck a 2019 Honda Civic driven by Kayla Cowans, 23, of Brandon. The head-on crash disabled both vehicles and sent Cowans to Tampa General Hospital for treatment of her injuries.

Virgilio fled the traffic crash on foot, as aviation and K9 deputies responded to the area to search for him. K9 LyCan was deployed and tracked the Virgilio to a wooden shed in a backyard located within the 3400 block of Yale Circle. LyCan pulled the suspect to the doorway area and he was taken into custody without further incident. Virgilio was arrested and charged with DUI with Serious Injury, Driving with License Canceled, Suspended or Revoked, Grand Theft Motor Vehicle, and Leaving Scene of a Crash with Serious Injury. Virgilio provided two breath samples at the time of arrest (BAC of .159/.148). Post Miranda, Virgilio admitted to stealing the vehicle.
