Statement from Sheriff Chad Chronister:
"The deep sorrow from the tragedy in Parkland is felt across our nation, as we all stand with those dealing with unimaginable grief. Children, especially school students who attend classes every day to learn and to grow, depend on the system to keep them safe - the system of law enforcement, educators and lawmakers. Nothing is more paramount in our mission than to protect our children. To the parents of school children in Hillsborough County: The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office, and our dedicated cadre of School Resource Deputies, remain
hyper-vigilant to any threats or vows of violence, whether they are cryptic statements on social media, so called "copycat'' threats or words spoken between students. Law enforcement and educators depend on students, parents and caregivers to alert us when they hear something or sense that something isn't right. I implore everyone to do the right thing when it comes to our children's safety. Don't stay silent or in the shadows. Be heard and maybe save a life. The citizens have my vow that we will work shoulder-to-shoulder with Hillsborough County Public Schools administrators and security to share information and respond to any and all threats. Communication is vital in our vigilance. We owe that to the children. We owe that to our future.''
