Deputies, including the HCSO Aviation section, using SafetyNet tracking equipment, found 80-year-old Michael Shannon in a wooded area east of Dell Webb Boulevard and Victoria Woods Drive. Shannon left his residence in the Dell Webb community on the west side of Highway 301 North of highway 674 and became disoriented. The Deputies trained in deploying Safety Net were called in to assist patrol units and almost immediately picked up a strong signal in the wooded area. Patrol units entered the woods and were able to make verbal contact with Mr. Shannon who was soon located approximately 120 yards inside the wooded area.
SafetyNet is a commercially produced system used to locate individuals who wander off and may become lost. HCSO first began using the SafetyNet system in 2009 and annually locates dozens of individuals using the technology.
