The highest you might normally see the ultra-valuable Stanley Cup is when its being held over a player’s head after winning the National Hockey League Championship. Not to be outdone, this Saturday, the HCSO Aviation unit will raise the bar by a couple feet! Well, maybe more like a couple thousand feet!
Lord Stanley's Cup will get a special aerial escort and arrive just in time for the Gasparilla Invasion where it will take a place of honor aboard the Jose Gaspar. The Cup will be handed over by the City of Clearwater Police Department at McKay Park in Clearwater and hop on a flight in an HCSO helicopter over to Tampa.
It will land near Lykes Lane and will be met by Sheriff Chad Chronister. He will personally lead the escort to Ballast Point Pier where it will link up with Ye Mystik Krewe of Gasparilla and hitch a ride for its journey on the water to invade Tampa. Gasparilla is an annual landmark event in the community that HCSO historically provides large amounts of both support and security for. The Stanley Cup is in town in honor of the upcoming NHL All-Star Game which is being hosted in Tampa later this weekend.
