Aviation was able to locate both the stranded boat and the individual on a nearby buoy.
At approximately 7:50 p.m., a citizen called 911 to advise that his friend, who could not swim, had jumped out of his boat and was on stranded on buoy without a personal flotation device approximately 3.5 miles northeast of Beer Can Island. The caller advised he could not go back to get him or look for him as the battery on his boat was dead and he was anchored in place.
HCSO Marine Units, Dive Team Members and Aviation responded to the area along with Hillsborough County Fire Rescue Boat 29. After searching the water for a few moments, Aviation was able to locate both the stranded boat and the individual on a nearby buoy. Due to the choppy conditions, divers entered the water and were able to get the man off the buoy and back onto a boat. The stranded boater and the rescued individual were safely taken to Williams Park boat ramp.
