The memory and service of 16 Sheriff's deputies who died in the line of duty will be honored in front of their families and friends at a ceremony planned for Tuesday, April 30.
Honor Guard members will place a wreath before the Fallen Heroes Memorial that sits in front of the Malcolm E. Beard Sheriff's Operations Center in Ybor City. The memorial, built in 2014, was created to help ensure the memories of each fallen officer would never be forgotten.
Tuesday's memorial service will include the reading of names for each HCSO deputy who died in the line of duty throughout history, followed by a fly over by the HCSO Aviation Unit and a 21 Gun Salute.
"Being a law enforcement officer is a calling, and the men and women who gave their lives to protect and defend our community deserve to be honored and recognized," said Sheriff Chad Chronister. "I hope the families of our fallen heroes will find comfort in knowing that their community and their extended family at the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office support them and want to keep the legacy of their loved one alive forever."
