Bloomingdale Teacher Arrested For Additional Charges Today

A forensic analysis was conducted on multiple recording devices and digital media storage devices after the service of a court authorized search warrant. On these devices, videos and images of females changing in the Fashion Design class were located. The defendant can be observed on numerous videos placing, concealing and removing the recording devices. Two hundred thirty-eight (238) videos and images depicted students of the school in various stages of undress. One video depicted an adult in stages of undress. Seventy-two (72) videos/images depicted various female students with their breast or buttocks exposed.

On September 11, 2018, the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office began an investigation at Bloomingdale Senior High School, 1700 E. Bloomingdale Avenue in Valrico, after being notified by school administration that a student located two cellphones concealed within the fashion design class changing room. One of the devices was actively recording when it was discovered by the student.
As a result of the initial investigation, the fashion design teacher, Mark William Ackett, 50, was arrested and charged with one count of video voyeurism.
During the initial investigation, the cellphones were seized and a court authorized search warrant was obtained and served on the devices. A forensic analysis of the cellphones revealed 267 videos and images of girls ranging from 14 to 18 years old, in various stages of undress. As a result, Ackett was charged with an additional 267 counts of video voyeurism, 73 counts of production of harmful material of a minor, and 13 counts of possession of child pornography.
Ackett turned himself to the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office and was taken into custody without incident.

A teacher at Bloomingdale Senior High School is facing a charge of video voyeurism for recording a student undressing on school property. On Tuesday, September 11, around 10 a.m., a student at Bloomingdale Senior High School entered a designated fitting/changing room within a fashion design classroom to try on clothing. While changing into various outfits, the victim noticed an electronic recording devices set up to covertly record the same area where she was undressing. The student immediately dressed herself and reported the incident to the school administration. The school administration began an initial investigation and alerted the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office. Detectives began a criminal investigation. Detectives learned that the cameras had been secretly placed in the changing room by the fashion design teacher, Mark William Ackett, who had placed them there intentionally and for the purposes of recording the victim in various stages of undress. Ackett admitted to detectives he was recording students while they were changing. Ackett was arrested and charged with one count of video voyeurism. Hillsborough County Public School's Professional Standards was notified and is also investigating. The criminal investigation is active and on-going.
