More than 30 high school students are graduating from the Hillsborough County Sherff's Office Rising Stars Academy.
More than 30 rising seniors across Hillsborough County will enter their final year of high school with a brand new laptop computer and a $1,000 scholarship thanks to the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office.
For the past nine years, HCSO has rewarded high-achieving students during a week-long program called the Rising Stars Academy. The academy was developed to provide students with a challenging leadership course and give them an inside look at possible professions within the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office, including the SWAT, Bomb, Marine, Aviation and K-9 Units.
Students participating in the program represent each public high school in Hillsborough County. The week-long leadership course is funded by the Hillsborough County Sheriffs Office and culminates with an awards ceremony for the participants and their families on Friday, June 7.
"I couldn't be more proud of these Rising Stars who have shown our deputies over the last week that they have what it takes to be leaders among their peers," said Sheriff Chad Chronister. "The skills they've learned through this physically and mentally demanding academy will help carry them through the remainder of their high school careers and into adulthood. Our goal is to help these young people continue to be not only productive students, but productive citizens in our community as well."
