HCSO Expands Homeless Outreach Efforts:
Hillsborough County's homeless population will have the opportunity to get free clothing, food and healthcare treatments on Tuesday, March 12.
Deputies from the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office Homeless Outreach Initiative are joining forces with the Tampa Police Department, Tampa International Airport Police and Temple Terrace Police to host the Tampa Community Homeless Outreach event.
From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the University Mall Sears, 2200 East Fowler Avenue in Tampa, law enforcement and community partners will provide the following items to homeless individuals: clothing, blankets, backpacks, hygiene bags, pet care, haircuts, showers, health screenings, flu shots, mental health and substance abuse treatment, veteran services, county and city services, food stamps, hot meals and voter registration assistance. All of the items being distributed are donated.
"This event brings members of our community together to get much needed services all in one location," said Sheriff Chad Chronister. "Our goal is to help people ultimately transition from the street to a more permanent and fruitful position. Every step of the way matters towards making that a reality and our deputies go a long way to helping in every way they can."
There will be raffles for bikes and bus passes. At previous Community Homeless Outreach events, there have been long lines of more than one hundred people wrapped around city blocks waiting for the opportunity to take advantage of the variety of services at no cost.
