Thomas Vinson Oliver
On Sunday around 9 p.m., deputies responded to a person down on the southbound lanes of Bruce B. Downs, approximately 800 feet south of 131 Avenue. Minguelina A. Schonherr (DOB: 05/08/58) was driving a Toyota Tundra when she hit a man laying the roadway. Schonherr said she did not see Thomas Oliver who was transported to AdventHealth and later pronounced dead.
Oliver had been picked up by Hillsborough County Fire Rescue earlier in the evening when he was laying down on Fletcher Avenue. He was transported to James Haley Veteran's Hospital where he refused treatment and left on foot. This was approximately 15 minutes before he was hit on Bruce B. Downs.
There is witness testimony which indicates other vehicle(s) may have struck Oliver after the initial impact with the Tundra. Detectives are looking for any information about those other vehicles or drivers to help complete the picture of the whole incident. It is believed they may not have even realized that they hit someone and this case is not is not being classified as a "hit and run." No charges are expected to be filed in this case.
Anyone with information regarding this matter is asked to call HCSO at 813-247-8200.
