A 17-year-old girl involved in a traffic crash early Saturday morning has passed away from her injuries. Sky Anna Marie Taylor (DOB: 03/01/02) was riding her skateboard just before 7 a.m. Saturday in a bicycle lane near South Gornto Lake Road and Providence Lakes Road. She was on her way to work at a nearby Publix when she was hit by a Volkswagen Passat driven by a 25-year-old woman also on her way to work.
Taylor was wearing all dark clothing at the time of the accident, and an investigation shows that she was riding on the fog line, which separates the bicycle lane from the other lanes of travel. The driver did not see her, striking Taylor with the right front portion of her vehicle.
The driver stopped to call 911. Taylor was transported to Tampa General Hospital with life-threatening injuries. She passed away around 4 p.m. on Sunday. Taylor's next of kin has been notified.
Taylor was a junior at Spoto High School in Riverview. While students are not in school today (Monday), Hillsborough County School officials say they plan to have crisis response counselors available at Spoto High on Tuesday.
No charges have been filed for the driver involved in the crash at this time.
