Deputies are working to determine if Walker is the same suspect who robbed and shot a woman in the same neighborhood.
Derrick Lamont Walker
A 22-year-old man is facing multiple charges for attempted robberies and home invasions in a Carrollwood neighborhood. Around 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 23
, Derrick Lamont Walker was walking southbound on Rosemount Drive as a resident on the 10400 block of Rosemount Drive was parking his car in his driveway. Walker tried to talk to the victim as he was getting his mail. The victim continued walking to his front door when he heard someone running at him from behind. The victim quickly entered his home and realized it was Walker as he turned around to lock the door.
Shortly after, Walker began banging on the front door and turning the door knob in an attempt to get into the residence. Walker then pulled a 9MM Smith & Wesson semi-automatic handgun and fired one shot through the mostly glass front door of the home. The round penetrated the glass, narrowly missing the victim. Neither of his two family members inside the home were injured either.
Walker then proceeded to another home on Rosemount Drive just a few doors down, where he knocked on the front door of another victim's home. The victim answer the front door, at which time, Walker pointed a handgun at the victim. The victim immediately closed and locked his front door.
As law enforcement began to arrive at the location, Walker observed the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office deputies and began running in an attempt to escape. Walker was located with the 9MM handgun still in his hand, and he was placed under arrest.
Deputies have learned that the 9MM Smith & Wesson was stolen out of Pasco County.
Deputies are working to determine if Walker is the same suspect who robbed and shot a woman in the same neighborhood, approximately one mile away, around 6 a.m. Saturday
morning as she was feeding neighborhood cats in front of her home on the 4800 block of Grove Point Drive.
At this time, Walker is facing charges of Attempted Robbery Home Invasion (3 counts), Possession of a Firearm during the Commission of a Felony (2 counts), Shooting at within or into a building (3 counts), Aggravated Assault with Intent to Commit a Felony, Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon, Resisting an Officer without Violence and Open Carrying of a Weapon. He is being held at Orient Road Jail without bond.
