    • Law enforcement philosophy: A law enforcement officer must always have an open mind. The array of situations, events and people that a deputy encounters on a given day demands the ability to react, relate and respect. “To Serve and Protect’’ will always be our mission. The key to successful policing is partnerships, from the neighborhoods to the civic associations to the charities to the other governmental agencies. You listen and you learn, and then you lead. Law enforcement is one of the greatest callings, but you will not be successful without a burning desire to help others, to be the one with the helping hand. That fire can never go out, from the deputy on the street to the Sheriff. The foundation of all we do at the Sheriff’s Office is centered on ethics and integrity: the citizens expect it, a deputy displays it. Plain and simple.

    • On being appointed Sheriff: I want to be a sheriff for all people. I am ready, willing and able to guide the Sheriff’s Office into the bright future. We have reduced crime for 10 straight years through working hard and working smart, and always with our community partners, and all in the face of a growing population. I will also expand our youth mentoring/intervention partnerships, such as the one with the Boys & Girls Clubs, to focus even more on the children.
