The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office presented the first ever Nuestra Comunidad, or Our Community, Festival on Saturday, May 29, 2010 at the University Area Community Center Complex. Approximately 2,000 people attended the five-hour event.
The Sheriff’s Office offered personal safety tips and information and interacted with the crowd. There were multiple display booths from governmental agencies and private corporations such as Bank of America, Verizon, Home Depot, TECO, U.S. Army, and La Ley 760 AM radio.
The crowd was entertained through the afternoon by Mariachi Invasor and Grupo Instincto. On hand were members of the Sheriff’s Mounted Posse, the Consulate of Mexico, and the Jim Walter Partnership Center. The crowd enjoyed music, food, balloons and children’s games.
Special thanks go to Coda Sound, the University Area Community Development Corporation, and Harold Jackson of the Hillsborough County Parks, Recreation and Conservation Department.
