The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office has installed permanent drug drop-off boxes at our four patrol district offices. Citizens are now able to properly dispose of unwanted, unnecessary and expired prescriptions, over the counter medicines and veterinarian prescriptions. The drop off boxes will are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
In 2012, Hillsborough County Anti Drug Alliance (HCADA) applied for Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) funding for a project entitled "Hillsborough County Drug Take Back Initiative." HCADA was awarded funding by the Hillsborough County Public Safety Coordinating Council in order to expand the current prescription and over-the-counter drug take back program in Hillsborough County. Hillsborough County Strategic Planning/Criminal Justice Office, Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office and HCADA collaborated to provide four new permanent take back boxes at each of the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office District offices.
The new permanent take back sites will provide multiple options for residents of Hillsborough County to safely dispose of unwanted/unused medications, increase awareness of prescription drug abuse and help keep potentially dangerous drugs out of the wrong hands.
The boxes are located at the following sites:
