Please join the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office in our support of Special Olympics Florida. One way to show you care for the Special Olympians is by helping us raise money through the Florida Law Enforcement Torch Run.
The mission of Special Olympics Florida is to provide year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for all children and adults with intellectual disabilities. The Hillsborough County Sheriff's office has been a long time supporter and a top ten fundraiser for Special Olympics Florida through the Law Enforcement Torch Run.
The Torch Run is a way for law enforcement agencies to show they care. The “Flame of Hope’’ torch is carried by law enforcement officers in a 1,500-mile relay around the state. This year more than 3,000 law enforcement officers representing 300 Florida agencies will participate as the torch makes it way through 60 counties before it is delivered to the opening ceremonies of the State Summer Games. The 2013 State Summer Games will be held at ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex on May 17-18. Over 1,500 athletes are competing in bocce, cycling, soccer, tennis, track & field, and volleyball.
The Hillsborough County leg of the 2013 Law Enforcement Torch Run will be held on Thursday, April 18, 2013, starting at approximately 10 a.m. The run will begin at Ballast Point Park (5300 Interbay Blvd., in Tampa), travel North along Bayshore Blvd., and finish at the Tampa Convention Center (333 S. Franklin St.), for a total distance of approximately 5.5 miles. Interested participants can also pick up the run at the intersection of Bayshore Blvd. and Bay to Bay Blvd., for a shorter distance of 3.2 miles. Bicycles and strollers are permitted. A brief check presentation ceremony, on behalf of all Tampa Bay area law enforcement to Special Olympics Florida, will immediately follow the run.
Any person(s) planning to participate in the 2013 LETR on Thursday, April 18, 2013, should complete the attached 2013 LETR Waiver form. Any person(s) under the age of 18 planning to participate should complete the attached 2012 LETR Minor Waivor form. Any/All persons running in the 2013 LETR are encouraged to wear their 2013 LETR gear on the day of the run.
