Job Overview

Perform a variety of clerical tasks and/or supervisory clerical duties in support of a major county function or operation including the processing of documents, forms, and applications; maintenance of detailed records; and compilation and computation of statistical data.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

Note: The following duties are illustrative and not exhaustive. Depending on assigned area of responsibility, incumbents in the position may perform some or all of the activities described below.
 
  • Supervise assigned clerical employees and provide training and assistance as necessary.
  • Maintain manual and automated file systems to include a large, complex system.
  • Code, classify, post, and compile information for use by others.
  • Verify and register documents; assign file numbers and affix seal as appropriate; review forms, documents, and other materials for accuracy and completeness.
  • Provide assistance to staff and public as required.
  • Respond to inquiries and searches files for requested information to include the more complex searches.
  • Perform computations and verify figures.
  • Maintain logs and records of equipment, inventory, costs, services performed, documents received, and charges to be assessed; may also maintain employee attendance and leave records.
  • Operate office equipment such as adding machines, copiers, telephones, shredders, and postage meters.
  • Operate data processing equipment.
  • Type forms, vouchers, requisitions, invoices, notices, schedules, legal documents, and other materials; type from rough drafts or combine data from multiple sources.
  • Provide guidance to lower level clerical staff and review work of others for completeness and accuracy.
  • Perform other clerical duties such as photocopying; ordering and issuing supplies; and sending receiving, sorting, and distributing mail.
  • Perform other related duties as required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Considerable knowledge of general office policies, procedures, and practices.
  • Considerable knowledge of English grammar, punctuation, and spelling.
  • Ability to proof own work and the work of other clerical personnel.
  • Ability to perform accurate computations and verification of data.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and supervise the work of others.
  • Ability to operate data processing, word processing, and other office equipment.
  • Ability to work effectively with others.
  • Ability to type.
  • Ability to use a computer and related software.

Minimum Qualification(s)

Note: Applicants must meet the following requirement(s) to be considered minimally qualified for the job.
A high school diploma or possession of a GED certificate; and
Three years of clerical experience; and
A passing score on pre-employment testing; and
30 net words per minute on a typing test; or 100 gross keystrokes per minute with 90% accuracy on a data entry test.
OR
A high school diploma or possession of a GED certificate; and
Successful completion of a secretarial, business and office technology, or office professional training program;  and
Two years of clerical experience; and
A passing score on pre-employment testing; and
30 net words per minute on a typing test; or 100 gross keystrokes per minute with 90% accuracy on a data entry test.
OR
An associate's degree from an accredited college or university; and
Two years of clerical experience; and
A passing score on pre-employment testing; and
30 net words per minute on a typing test; or 100 gross keystrokes per minute with 90% accuracy on a data entry test.
 
Preferred Qualifications
A current Florida Licensed Practical Nurse license with graducation from an accredited licensed practical nurse program.
Medical Assistant with graduation from an accrediated medical assisting program.
Associates Degree in Medial Assisting with Current certification.
At least one year of experience in occupational medicine, emergency care, or outpatient medical office related work.
CPR Certified.

Additional Requirements

  • Possession of a valid Florida driver's license at time of employment. Driving history will be thoroughly reviewed and may be grounds for disqualification.
  • No illegal drug sale within lifetime.
  • No illegal drug use within the past 36 months.
  • No illegal drug use after 30 years of age.
  • No felony convictions within lifetime.
  • No misdemeanor convictions involving perjury, false statement, or domestic violence within lifetime.
  • Prior military personnel must not have a dishonorable discharge from any branch of the United States Armed Forces, the United States Coast Guard, National Guard, or Reserve Forces.
  • Successful completion of a criminal background investigation including polygraph, reference/employment/neighborhood checks, medical evaluation, and drug screening.
