The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office offers a wide variety of career opportunities with civilian support positions. Opportunities exist in areas of clerical, data operations, vehicle maintenance, digital communications dispatchers, community service officers and many others.
When a position becomes available within the agency, it is listed with Hillsborough County Civil Service. ALL open vacancies are listed and the initial application MUST be made through Hillsborough County Civil Service.

NOTE: If applying for a civilian position, you will
undergo an extensive background investigation. During this phase, information concerning the applicant will be solicited from references, employers, neighbors, friends, schools, law enforcement agencies, credit bureaus, etc. You may also be subjected to a polygraph examination.

In some cases, hundreds of civil service applications will be submitted for one available position. Not all applicants will qualify or be called to interview for the job. If you have applied for a position and have not heard from either the Civil Service Board or the Sheriff's Office then other qualified candidates have been selected.
The Sheriff's Office will notify the qualified, viable candidates of their status and request that they now complete a Sheriff's Office application.
