The Student Intern Program provides unpaid academic study-related work assignments that allow students to explore career options in addition to developing personal and professional skills. Working in any of the 4 Districts or specialty areas, this assignment can prepare students for a career with the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office.
The program offers many advantages, including career exploration early in a student's academic studies, exposure to new and emerging occupations/technologies, academic credit for the work performed (this is determined by the academic institution), and work experience that may be considered relevant if the student later applies for permanent employment.
Requirements and Qualifications
- Be enrolled or accepted for enrollment during the upcoming semester or quarter as a diploma/certificate/degree seeking.
- Obtain an agreement from the institution to participate
- Maintain a satisfactory academic record of a 2.5 or better cumulative grade point average
Background Investigation
Applicants must pass a background investigation.
Students may be accepted to the internship program, based on the results of a preliminary background investigation. However, internship is contingent upon satisfactorily completion of the full background.
Work Schedule
Students are expected to intern for the required semester credit hours per your school.
Assignments
Most assignments are ride-a-longs with the deputies in the Districts but you may also be used in a support role in any of the various assignments.
