    Reserve Deputy Orientation

Reserve Deputy Orientation is held quarterly and the date posted on the Reserve Deputy Tab under Career Opportunities. This Orientation will provide a brief overview of the Reserve Deputy Program, requirements, training and assignments. Information on this orientation will be posted on www.hcso.tampa.fl.us.

    Sheriff’s Orientation Training (SOT)

SOT is the first stage of training for all new law enforcement deputy trainees and detention deputy trainees. SOT is an intense two (2) week pre-academy orientation and training session all new recruits must successfully complete. SOT introduces the recruit to a high level of discipline, and intense physical conditioning needed to successfully complete the rigors of the academy. SOT is conducted at the Walter C. Heinrich Practical Training Facility in Lithia. It is a residential program. Recruits will live at the facility during the week and have the weekend off.

Prospective recruits should begin now to prepare physically and mentally if they wish to be given the opportunity to excel at SOT. The experience at SOT will be the most difficult physical and mental challenge the recruit will likely face during his or her career. This cannot be overstated.

    S.O.T. Sheriff's Orientation Training

Our Sheriff’s Orientation Training, or SOT, has proven a legitimate and tactical assessment tool of recruits. We launched SOT in 2007, constructing a camp at our Walter C. Heinrich Practical Training Site with billets, showers and physical fitness areas. It is a two-week, in-your-face program that covers Sheriff’s Office culture, procedures, expectations and standard operating procedures. Recruits live on-site for the two weeks, immersing them in the Sheriff’s Office experience while allowing our instructors the watch and gauge how they perform.

We conduct SOT for both law enforcement and detention applicants, with each SOT being identical in core requirements of fitness and Sheriff’s Office culture/procedures. SOT is mandatory for a recruit to advance to cadet, thus embarking on the extended training regimen tailored toward law enforcement or detention.
