ARTICLE I – PURPOSE OR MISSION STATEMENT
The purpose of this organization, to be known as the HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE ALUMNI ASSOCIATION, shall be to promote and maintain relationships among the alumni, employees, and friends of the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office, and to support the Sheriff’s Office Mission and integrity of the Office.
ARTICLE II – MEMBERSHIP
Section I Persons officially retired via the Florida Retirement System or currently enrolled in the Deferred Retirement Option Program (DROP).
Section II Associate Members – Former employees, those who have taken deferred retirement, and family members of retired employees.
Section III This Association may request contributions for a one-time, voluntary $10.00 (Ten Dollar) membership fee to be used for administrative expenses of the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office Alumni Association.
ARTICLE III – OFFICERS
Section I To be eligible to hold any elective office or appointed office, the officer or chairperson must be officially retired via the Florida Retirement System and must have attended 50% of the regularly scheduled meetings.
Section II The elected officers and their duties shall be:
A. CHAIRPERSON – will be elected by the alumni members present at an annual meeting or event with at least 20 days notification of the meeting. The chairperson shall be elected on a two (2) year basis and shall be the executive head of the Association. Duties of the chairperson shall include:
1. Provide guidance and leadership for the Association
2. Represent the Association in its relations with other organizations and within our own ranks of the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office.
B. VICE-CHAIRPERSON - shall serve in the Chairperson’s absence to provide guidance and leadership for the Association and to represent the Association in its relations with other organizations and within our own ranks of the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office. The Vice-Chairperson will be elected for a two-year term.
C. SECRETARY – shall record meetings and special events, develop the quarterly newsletter, chair the Communication/Newsletter Committee. The Secretary will be elected for a two-year term.
D. TREASURER – Serves to coordinate activity costs associated with each event to be paid at the event. The Treasurer will be elected for a two-year term.
E. SHERIFF’S OFFICE LIAISON – Appointed by the Sheriff to serve in conjunction with the Officers and Board of Directors as an advisor and to ensure the integrity and Mission of the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office is upheld.
ARTICLE IV – COMMITTEES
Section I Standing Committees may include, but are not limited to:
Benevolence Committee – A committee member shall serve as Chaplain.
Emergency Needs Committee
Section II Active Alumni, on a voluntary basis, serve as committee members and the committee shall elect the committee chairman except as noted elsewhere.
ARTICLE V – CONDUCT OF BUSINESS
Section I The business and affairs of the Association shall be vested with the Officers unless otherwise provided for in these bylaws or those of the Association. The Board shall be comprised of the officers and committee chairpersons and will meet once, quarterly. The officers may call special meetings.
Section II All actions of the Association shall be in accord with the bylaws of the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office Alumni Association.
ARTICLE VI – AMENDMENTS
These bylaws may be amended by a majority vote of the General Membership present at any regular meeting or special meeting where such proposed actions shall have been announced 20 days prior to such meeting.
