Daniel A. Alvarez, Sr. joins the Public Affairs Office with significant experience in corporate communications, marketing and messaging management. Danny received his Bachelor of science in Journalism degree from the University of Florida, a degree in Education from Troy State University and a law degree from Stetson College. He is an Army veteran and was a jumping member of the historic Fort Benning Command Exhibition Parachute Team, “The Silver Wings.”
The HCSO Public Affairs Office is one of the busiest law enforcement public information offices in the state of Florida. The Public Affairs Office disseminates information to the public and media on a wide variety of subjects, including agency facts, policies and procedures, breaking news stories and interviews with Sheriff’s Office personnel.
Danny has the distinction of being a three-time Tampa Bay Business Journal Heroes At Work honoree. In 2014, Danny became Florida Governor Rick Scott’s Hispanic Political Director for the Bay Area. In August of 2015, Danny was named the Hispanic Man of the Year by Tampa Hispanic Heritage, Inc. In December of 2015, Danny was awarded the Al Gallon Ministries Community Service Person of the Year, which was chosen by a panel of 200 leaders in the African American Community. Danny is an adjunct Business Law Professor at the University of Tampa. In 2012, Danny was re-appointed by the Hillsborough County Commission to a second four-year term on the Hillsborough Childrens Services Advisory Board. In 2015, Danny was appointed by the Governor of Florida to sit on the Tampa Hillsborough Expressway Authority and in 2016 he was elected Secretary of the Board. He is a lifetime member of The Veteran’s of Foreign Wars, a perpetual member of several Masonic organizations in the Tampa Area and a member of La Casa Cuba de Tampa.
Mr. Danny Alvarez, Sr., was born and raised in Florida. He and his family reside in Hillsborough County.
