      Sheriff David Gee is a lifelong resident of Hillsborough County. He has served the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office and the community for over thirty-eight years. Throughout his career, he worked in progressive positions of leadership, including homicide investigator, Internal Affairs supervisor, Public Information Officer, Chief Financial Officer and Chief Deputy until he was elected Sheriff in 2004. As Sheriff of Hillsborough County, David Gee is responsible for managing one of the largest suburban sheriff’s offices in the nation and an annual budget of more than $405 million.

      Sheriff Gee holds a bachelor’s degree in mathematics from the University of Tampa. In addition, he is a graduate of the FBI National Academy, a graduate of the United States Secret Service Dignitary Protection School, and is a law enforcement aviator rated in fixed-wing aircraft and turbine helicopters. Sheriff Gee’s experience, education and training strengthened his belief that law enforcement can only be effective if it provides service and protection based on the highest standards of integrity and professionalism. As a result, he immediately began implementation of a three-year Strategic Operations Plan that reflected his priorities and realignment of Office operations that include core values of integrity, professionalism, service and protection. In 2008, 2012 and 2016, Sheriff Gee was re-elected. He is currently serving his fourth term in office.

      Sheriff David Gee is deputized by the U.S. Marshals Service and by the Federal Drug Enforcement Administration as a Task Force Officer. In addition, he is a member of the FBI Joint Terrorism Task Force, Chairman of the Attorney General’s Region 4 Gang Reduction Task Force, Chair of the FHP Jurisdiction Subcommittee of the Governor’s Law Enforcement Consolidation Task Force and Co-Chairman of the Region 4 Domestic Security Task Force. He is a past Southeast Region Director for the Airborne Law Enforcement Association. He serves as a board member of A Kids Place of Tampa Bay, board member of the Judeo Christian Health Clinic, and an active member of the Florida Sheriffs Youth Ranches. He is the former chairman of the Brandon Boys and Girls Club, former chair for Brandon Regional Hospital, former board member of the Hillsborough County Head Start Program, and former security consultant to the Office of the Commissioner of Major League Baseball.

      Sheriff Gee is the recipient of the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve Patriot Award (two), recipient of the Boys and Girls Clubs Community Hero Award, recipient of the Crystal Star Award from the Florida Sheriffs Youth Ranches, recipient of two Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office Medals of Valor, as well as the recipient of the Tampa/Hillsborough Human Rights Council award. In 2007, he was awarded “Sheriff of the Year” by the National Crisis Intervention Team. In 2015, he was presented with a Leadership Award by the Greater Brandon Chamber of Commerce. Also in 2015, he received the Liberty Bell Award presented by the Hillsborough County Bar Association. He is the recipient of the Raymond E. Fernandez Award by the Sheriff’s Hispanic Advisory Council and was awarded Law Enforcement Officer of the Year by the Kiwanis Club. He received a U.S. Congressional Commendation in recognition of HCSO’s Fallen Heroes Escort Program. In February 2016, he was presented with the Silver Patrick Henry Award by the Military Order of the World Wars. On September 14, 2016, the Sun City Center Chapter of the Military Order of the World Wars honored Sheriff Gee by presenting him with their National Law & Order Exceptional Service Award. Sheriff Gee was presented with the Boys & Girls Clubs of America National Award in December 2016.

      Sheriff Gee and his wife, Rhonda, have four children. Sheriff Gee is active in the community and is an avid outdoorsman.
