Major Curtis Flowers
Major Curtis N. Flowers is the Commander of Jail Division II, the Falkenburg Road Jail, in the Department of Detention Services for the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office in Tampa, Florida. This is one of the largest jails in the country with a rated capacity of 3,682 inmates. The jail sits on 140 acres behind the fence line and includes male and female full service medical infirmaries; almost 500 confinement lockdown beds that house the most notorious inmates. The Falkenburg Road Jail also operates the Video Visitation System for the entire department.
Major Flowers is a graduate of Kentucky State University (BS), University of South Florida (Master in Business Administration), and the 38th Session of the Police Executive Research Forum-Senior Management Institute for Police. In addition, he is a graduate of the Southern Police Institute Command Officers Program and the United States Department of Justice National Institute of Corrections Leadership Program.
He has served long-time memberships in the American Correctional Association, American Jail Association and Florida Sheriffs Association. He is recognized as one of the first Certified Jail Managers in Hillsborough County. Currently, he is a member of the Hillsborough County Board of County Commissioners' Human Relations Board; past member of Florida Department of Law Enforcement Task Forces, Police Community Relations, and the Public Safety Coordinating Council Alternative to Incarceration Committee.
Major Flowers speaks to civic groups, churches, community groups and guest lectures at the University of South Florida, Criminology Department regarding Sheriff's Office operations. He has been employed with the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office for twenty-nine years.
