On February 9, 2015, detectives received information that Yosnel Bonet, who had an active warrant for VOP (Fleeing to Elude/DWLS), would possibly be at the Walmart located at 11110 Causeway Blvd. in Brandon. Detectives responded to the Walmart and conducted stationary surveillance. Detectives observed the suspect vehicle arrive on scene just before 5:50 p.m. and approached the suspect as he exited the vehicle. Detectives identified themselves and issued verbal commands for the suspect to stop. Bonet fled on foot, but was apprehended without incident after a short foot pursuit. Detectives detected the odor of burning marijuana coming from the suspect vehicle and conducted a search. During the search, a .38 caliber revolver, a box of ammunition and multiple items of paraphernalia were located in the vehicle. A small amount of marijuana was also located on Bonet's person. Bonet is a convicted felon and was on felony probation at the time of this incident. He was arrested and charged with Driving while License Revoked-Habitual Offender, VOP, Felon in Possession of a Firearm (x2), Carrying Concealed Firearm, Possession of Cannabis, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia and Obstructing or Opposing an Officer without Violence.
