    • 2005 Buick Terrazo Mini-van

On September 27, 2015, just before 7 am, Veronica Garcia was traveling northbound on Wilder Road in her 2005 Buick Terrazo with her two children. For unknown reasons she drifted off of the right shoulder approximately 1/2 mile south of Knights Griffin Road. When Garcia tried to correct, she crossed the road into the oncoming lane.

Garcia then swerved back to the right and lost control of the vehicle, spinning her vehicle into the ditch and striking a TECO utility pole. Power lines fell from the insulators and were leaning against the utility pole.

Ralph Patterson of 4605 Wilder Road heard the crash from his house and responded to the location where he could hear two children screaming. Patterson flagged down Kirk Butts of 5014 Turkey Ridge Road in Plant City.

Even though it was possible the pole and vehicle were electrically charged from the power lines, both men removed Geovanni Ibarra from the vehicle.

Jonathan Ibarra was thrown from the vehicle and into the ditch and was removed from the mud by Kirk Butts.

Both children were taken to Tampa General Hospital with minor injuries. Veronica Garcia died at the scene upon impact.  There were no seat belts or child restraints in use. There were no other vehicles involved and alcohol is not suspected.

Next of Kin (father) has been notified and is with the children.

    The investigation continues.
