Deputies responded to 5310 Ruth Morris Road in Wimauma in reference to someone hearing what they thought were shots fired.

On March 1, 2016, deputies responded to 5310 Ruth Morris Road in Wimauma in reference to someone hearing what they thought were shots fired. Upon arrival, the deputy observed the defendant hiding behind a large chicken coop, at the rear of the property. The deputy also observed a large number of chickens, and some of them fighting each other. An Animal Control Officer arrived and indicated that it was a cockfighting training ring. Inside the ring were two roosters prepared for fighting/training, to include removal of chest and leg feathers, and sparing gloves. A brown rooster laid deceased inside the ring. The ring also included a timer, weight scale and record book. A total of 107 fighting roosters were observed within the chicken coop. The suspect was arrested and taken into custody.
