On November 1, 2016 at approximately 1:43 pm, the body of a deceased adult white female was discovered in a ditch on the north side of the road just east of the intersection located at 20th Avenue South and 58th Street South. The body was discovered by a citizen that was out horseback riding approximately 4 - 5 feet off the roadway in the ditch. The victim was fully clothed and had suffered trauma to the upper body.
On December 6, 2016, based on the investigation a warrant was issued for Lewis James Scott, DOB 7-17-88 for Arson of a mobile home located at 2014 Warrington Way. Lewis James Scott is the brother of James Luis Scott. During the course of the arson investigation it was learned that the mobile home had been burned in an attempt to destroy the evidence of the murder of Evelyn Woodham. Lewis
James Scott was arrested on December 6, 2016 and charged with arson.
The investigation continued and in December a warrant was issued for James Luis Scott, DOB 8-25-94 for the murder of Evelyn Woodham.
December 17, 2017 additional charges were placed on Scott's brother, Lewis James Scott charging him with First Degree Murder, Accessory After the Fact in the murder of Evelyn Woodham.
On January 31, 2017 James Luis Scott was located and arrested by Tampa Police Department on warrants issued by Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office.
