On January 20, 2017 at 10:53 a.m. the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office received a call from someone stating that a black female juvenile had just walked into the School District of Hillsborough County Transportation building and seemed lost. When deputies arrived, there was a white van parked in front of the business with the door open and a flat tire. Deputies ran the tag which was registered to the Orient Road Child Development Center located at 5708 Orient Rd. in Tampa. The assistant director, Erica Donaldson, responded to the scene and confirmed that the child was a child from their daycare that must have been left behind when the bus broke down and the children were transferred to another bus at around 9:30 a.m. There were 4 children total on the bus, three in car seats and the 4-year-old female child that had fallen asleep in the back seat. Deputies interviewed the driver of the bus, Brandy Taylor, and the adult passenger, Yvonne Jones, and both women stated that the bus got a flat tire and stopped at 9455 Harney Rd. at 9:00 a.m. They stated they waited for about half an hour for a replacement van to arrive and transferred the three infants over to the new van. Not realizing they left the 4-year-old child behind, they then drove to the daycare. At this time, no charges have been filed and the investigation is ongoing.
