On April 25, 2017, eight-year-old Skyla Sullivan called 9-1-1 to report that she and her eighty-year-old great grandmother, Jean Sullivan, had just arrived home when her great grandmother was reaching for something under the car and lost her footing as the vehicle shifted and rolled over her, pinning her under the vehicle.
As this situation was unfolding, Skyla did an extraordinary job of providing detailed, critical information that led to the response of Hillsborough County Sheriff's Deputies and Hillsborough County Fire Rescue Emergency Medical Services personnel. Her great grandmother was eventually freed from under the vehicle, received medical assistance and was transported to a local hospital.
Skyla displayed a great deal of care, compassion, maturity, and courage in her interaction with the 9-1-1 operator and provided key information that was immediately relayed to the responding deputies and the emergency medical services personnel. We are happy to report that her great grandmother is recovering from her injuries and is doing well.
Skyla will be honored at Deer Park Elementary School on Tuesday, May 9, 2017 at 8:30 a.m. for her outstanding job.
