Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office will participate in the 35th Annual Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics Florida On Thursday, April 26. Participation is open to all active-duty and retired law enforcement officers and civilian support staff. Bicycles and relay runners are welcome for this event.
Runners can opt to join in on the run at any of these locations:
- 10:00 am – Ballast Point Park, 5300 Interbay Boulevard, Tampa, 3361 (10 min/mile pace, distance to Tampa Convention Center is 5.3 miles)
- 10:40 am – Bayshore Boulevard at Bay to Bay Boulevard, (park at Fred Ball Park) (11 min/mile pace, distance to Tampa Convention Center is 3.0 miles)
- 11:10 am – Bayshore Boulevard at Tarpon Weigh Station (near Platt St bridge) (fast-walk pace, distance to Tampa Convention Center is 0.6 miles)
MacDill AFB Security Police will receive the torch from Pinellas County via marine units at Pelican Pier on MacDill AFB at approximately 9:40 am. They will run the torch out to Ballast Point via Bayshore Boulevard and arrive there by 10:00 am. Law enforcement runners will join in and continue running along Bayshore Boulevard until they meet the final group of runners/walkers at the Tarpon Weigh Station. At 11:19 am, the entire group will leave for Tampa Convention Center via Bayshore Boulevard arriving at 11:25 am.
