As a result of the Tampa Police Department investigation into Shakayla Denson, the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office initiated an internal review of our records as it pertains to her and her daughter. The following release is a result of that research.
On June 19, 2018, HCSO Child Protection Investigation Division conducted an inadequate supervision investigation into Shakayla Denson, (6/10/92, Black/Female) and Je’Hyrah Daniels (1/30/2014), her daughter. The matter was closed on July 31 due to no indicators of maltreatment, abuse or neglect. In light of this incident, we conducted an additional review of the case and concur with the original findings.
Due to this case involving a juvenile investigation, this is all the information we can release about it as per Florida Statutes Chapter 39. This is the only statement this Office is making at this time. If any updates become available, they will be through Media release.
Our hearts hurt for the loss of Je’Hyrah Daniels. These types of matters are without a doubt some of the most emotionally tolling types of cases law enforcement encounters. As an office made up deputies and civilians who are fathers, mothers, sons and daughters before anything else, we send our deepest condolences for the tragic loss of this young child.
