    Details:

The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office successfully ended a SWAT standoff in Lutz early Tuesday morning, after a suicidal man stabbed himself and a relative.

Around 1:30 a.m., August 21, deputies responded to a 9-1-1 call at 19318 Garden Quilt Circle in Lutz in reference to a suicide attempt. Upon arrival, deputies learned that Serkan Ceylani, 31, had armed himself with a screwdriver and stabbed his mother, Hulya Ceylani, 67, multiple times in her upper torso. He then barricaded himself inside the bathroom of the home he shares with his parents, his wife and two sons, ages 6 and 11. The mother was transported to St Joseph's Hospital- Main in stable condition to receive treatment for her stab wounds.

The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office SWAT team, Bomb Squad and Crisis Negotiations Team were all called out to the scene around 1:50 a.m. All efforts were made to try to negotiate with Ceylani from outside the bathroom door, but eventually, he stopped communicating with negotiators.  Deputies eventually broke through the window of the bathroom to reach Ceylani and deployed two canisters of tear gas before confronting him.  Once deputies were inside the bathroom, Ceylani continued to be uncooperative, so a taser was deployed.  He was placed in custody following the four-hour standoff.

The SWAT team immediately brought Ceylani outside of the house to get him first-aid assistance.  He was transported by Hillsborough County Fire Rescue to St. Joseph's Hospital-Main as a trauma alert.  The investigation is ongoing and charges are forthcoming.
