Wrong-way driver arrested for driving under the influence and for leaving the scene after crashing into another vehicle.
Arline Colon was driving a black, Jeep Wrangler southbound in the northbound lanes at Gunn Highway and Isbell Lane last night just before 9:00 p.m. Brooke Morgan, 21, was driving her Nissan Altima in the area and swerved into a painted median in an attempt to avoid a crash, but was struck by Colon’s Jeep on the passenger side. Colon did not stop to provide any information and continued southbound. The front axle of the Jeep Wrangler snapped, and the vehicle eventually came to a stop in the roadway near North Mobley Road.
Deputies arrived on scene and observed the Jeep on the east side shoulder, facing southbound. Colon was located in a gray sedan across from the Jeep with a visible seatbelt mark, but her wallet was located on the Jeep’s front passenger seat and her black flip flops were observed under the Jeep’s brake pedal. Colon smelled of alcohol, had slurred speech, bloodshot watery eyes and was unable to stand under her own power. Field Sobriety Exercises were not conducted, for safety reasons, due to Colon appearing to be extremely intoxicated. She was arrested for DUI and refused to provide lawful breath samples. She was transported to Orient Road Jail and charged with Driving Under the Influence w/ Property Damage and Leaving the Scene of a Crash w/ Property Damage.
