Inmate Death Investigation
Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office Detectives are conducting a death investigation surrounding the passing of an inmate housed at the Falkenburg Road Jail.

Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office Detectives are conducting a death investigation surrounding the passing of an inmate housed at the Falkenburg Road Jail. Emergency Medical Services were called to the facility December 8, just before 6 p.m. when Inmate Mauricio Blanco Jr., became unresponsive. It is unknown at this time what caused his initial condition. After jail medical staff and Hillsborough County Fire Rescue stabilized Blanco, he was transported to Brandon Regional Hospital where he later passed away at approximately 7:20 p.m. Next of Kin has been notified. The cause of death has not been determined awaiting the results of an examination from the Medical Examiner.
Blanco was booked into jail by the Tampa Police Department on November 23 for charges of Battery on a Law Enforcement Officer, Resisting Officer w/ Violence, and Possession of Cannabis >20g. At the time, Blanco Jr. was out on bond for HCSO involved charges of Possession of Cannabis >20g, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and Driving with License Suspended. Blanco Jr.'s bond was subsequently revoked due to the new TPD offenses.
