On July 1, 2018 at approximately 4:55 p.m., Deputy Eric King was traveling north on MacDill Ave. within his marked HCSO Dodge Charger. As Deputy King neared the intersection of Columbus Dr. W., a 2018 Lexus RX350, driven by Jessie Ray Williams, turned in front of him heading east on Columbus Dr. Deputy King utilized his brakes, but was not able to stop in time. Deputy King's vehicle struck the passenger side of the Lexus. As a result of the crash, the Lexus flipped onto its roof and Deputy King’s vehicle was disabled within the intersection with air bag deployment. Tampa Police and Tampa Fire Rescue responded and secured the intersection. Deputy King suffered a laceration to the top of his head and was transported to TGH. Williams complained of a sore knee and remained at the scene.
