Deputies arrest driver for charges relating to a traffic fatality March 17, 2017.
On June 4, 2018, at approximately 10:48 a.m., Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office deputies with the United States Fugitive Task Force located and arrested Derrick Upshur. Upshur was wanted for charges relating to a traffic fatality March 17, 2017.
On the morning of March 17, 2017, at approximately 6:14 a.m., Derrick Upshur was operating his 2004 Ford F150 pickup truck southbound on Himes Avenue in a reckless manner; at least 30 mph over the posted speed limit and under the influence of alcohol.

Details (News Release 17-115):
On March 17, 2017 at 6:14 a.m., Derrick Upshur was operating his F-150 southbound on Himes Ave N approaching Waters Ave W. Jose Mastrapa was eastbound on Waters Ave W in the right lane. Bahram Amini-Sarabi was northbound on Himes Avenue N and was stopped for the red light at Waters Av W. Mr. Upshur was operating his vehicle in excess of the posted speed limit and failed to stop for the red traffic light causing his F-150 to enter the intersection and strike the Mustang. The Mustang was displaced in a southeast direction and struck a utility pole before coming to final rest. The F-150 continued in a southeast direction and struck the Sentra before coming to rest. Mastrapa sustained fatal injuries as a result of this crash and was pronounced deceased at the scene. Upshur and Sarabi were both transported to St. Joseph's Hospital Main with non-life-threatening injuries. Alcohol is suspected and charges are pending.
