Deputies and FHP were at the same intersection investigating a separate traffic crash.
Panfilo Hernandez Saldana
Charges: Driving Under the Influence with Property Damage, Driving Under the Influence (Over 0.15), and No Valid Drivers License
On June 22, 2018 at approximately 11:47 p.m., Panfilo Hernandez Saldana was driving his 2000 Mercury Grand Marquis north on 41 Highway S towards Valroy Road in Ruskin. HCSO deputies and Florida Highway Patrol were at the same intersection investigating a separate traffic crash in the southbound lane of 41 Highway South. The driver of a 2011 Honda Accord observed the emergency lights and deputies in the grass center median with flash lights. The Honda came to a stop to allow the deputies to cross. Hernandez Saldana failed to stop behind the Honda, striking the rear bumper causing it to strike the HCSO marked patrol vehicle which was parked on the shoulder of the northbound lane.
Hernandez Saldana did not sustain injuries during the crash, however the passenger in his vehicle was transported to South Bay Hospital for possible injuries. Both occupants of the Honda were transported to St. Joseph's Hospital for minor injuries. The total damage to the three vehicles is estimated at $12,500.00.
HCSO deputies made contact with Hernandez Saldana. He had bloodshot watery eyes, a strong odor of alcohol emitted from his breath, his speech was slurred and he was unsteady on his feet. He provided two breath samples of BAC .154/.156. He was arrested for DUI with Property Damage, DUI over 0.15 and No Valid Drivers License.
