For Sheriff Chad Chronister, Ethan Dull represents everything he is looking for in a deputy. The fact that he is a Mango Elementary School fifth grade student just means he is going to have to wait a little bit to hire him on. So for now, instead of the silver badge, the Sheriff will award Ethan and eleven other Hillsborough County Students just like him, the title of Junior Deputy, some prize money and a brand new Amazon Kindle as part of the annual HCSO Junior Deputy awards breakfast. The ceremony will take place at 9 a.m. at the Sheriff's Operation Center in Ybor City.

"Keep a positive and respectful attitude to people. You will get better treatment from them in return," wrote Dull in his award winning essay. "Be supportive of others and their dreams and goals."

Fifth grade Students from all over the county participated in the three-day Junior Deputy program that has been of fixture at the agency for over 40 years. Students learn about being good citizens and the internal working of law enforcement during their mini-academy. At the end of the course, students submit an essay around "What being a Junior Deputy means to me." From a couple hundred submissions, HCSO picked 12 to award. Students will be treated to a breakfast and get their gifts directly from the Sheriff himself. Afterwards, they will get a tour of the facility including a behind-the-scenes look at the 911 Call Center. Florida West Coast Credit Union donated the $25 dollar cash prize for each student.
