Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office detectives have confirmed that Isabel Melendez was killed in an accident at Egmont Key Park.
Around 4 p.m. Saturday, October 20, Melendez was struck by a falling palm tree while lying in a hammock and sustained a fatal injury. She was pronounced deceased at Bayfront Hospital in St Petersburg.
Her next of kin has been notified. The death does not appear to be suspicious. No further updates are expected at this time.
The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office is currently investigating what appears to be an accidental death of an adult female on Egmont Key. It is not believed to be suspicious. This is an active investigation in its early stages and information is limited. HCSO is leading the investigation and Pinellas County Sheriff's Office is assisting on scene.
