James Paul Collins
15867 Martha Circle
Charge: Neglect of an Elderly or Disabled Adult
On September 17, a 58-year-old female, who suffers from an advanced form of Parkinson’s disease and is a functional quadriplegic, was admitted into Florida Hospital. At the time of admission, the victim weighed 50lbs, was malnourished/dehydrated and was covered in severe bedsores.
Throughout the course of the investigation, detectives learned that, between September 2016 and September 2018, James Collins failed to provide the victim, his mother, with the basic needs required to sustain herself. Collins, 29, also ignored her visible wounds and failed to seek proper medical care.
After her admission to Florida Hospital, the victim was admitted into a long-term health care facility. On October 19, the victim weighed 91.52 lbs., indicating that her weight loss was the result of the defendant’s neglect and not an eating disorder.
Collins was arrested at his residence this morning and taken into custody without incident. He is charged with one count of Neglect of an Elderly or Disabled Adult.
