A Gibsonton man was arrested on Saturday for stabbing a family dog following an argument with his father. Around 4 p.m. on March 30, Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office deputies were called to 10013 California Street. They learned upon arrival that Robert Abbott Jr, 34, got into a verbal argument with his father. During the course of the argument, Abbott Jr. got a knife and stabbed the family's pit bull mix dog several times causing severe injuries to the dog.
When deputies entered the residence, they discovered Abbott Jr. had barricaded himself inside a bathroom with the knife, and he repeatedly refused commands to exit the bathroom and surrender. After several minutes of negotiations, Abbott Jr. allowed deputies to enter the bathroom and he was taken into custody without further incident.
Hillsborough County Animal Services (HCAS) quickly responded to the scene and arranged emergency veterinary services for the injured family dog.
