A man was able to steal three new iPhones from a cellphone store in Tampa after threatening a store clerk. The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office is working to identify the suspect.
Around 1 p.m. on Thursday, April 4
, a black male suspect entered the Boost Mobile store located at 7338 W Waters Avenue in Tampa accompanied by two other black males, one dressed in women's clothing. After talking to the store clerk for a few minutes, the two other black males exited the store as the suspect attempted to purchase three iPhones valued at $3,200 using a gift card.
The clerk informed the suspect that his method of payment was not accepted due to possible fraud. The suspect then attempted to grab all three phones off of the counter. When the clerk grabbed the phones, preventing the man from taking them, the suspect grabbed a wireless keyboard off the counter and raised it in a threatening manner, ordering the clerk to give him the phones.
The clerk, in fear of being hurt, gave all three phones to the suspect. He fled the store in a silver 2007 Hyundai, possibly a Sonata.
The suspect, described as a black male, approximately 5'7" and 170 lbs, had a goatee, piercings in both ears and was last seen wearing a red, white and black Fila t-shirt, black skinny jeans and black Nike flip flops. He was carrying a multicolored purse. A picture of the suspect is attached.
