The defendant, Alicia Belcher and the victim were traveling eastbound on Interstate 4 when they became engaged in a verbal altercation around 7:05 p.m. last night. Belcher stopped the vehicle and the victim exited the vehicle and crossed to the far side of the interstate. Belcher crossed over all three lanes and intentionally struck the victim with her vehicle and fled. She was located on 579 Hwy, just north of Hillsborough Avenue East. When deputies came in contact with Belcher, she exhibited signs of impairment. Belcher provided breath samples showing a breath alcohol content of 0.219/0.210. Deputies arrested Belcher and she was charged with Driving Under the Influence (Over 0.15), DUI with Serious Bodily Injury, Leaving the Scene of the Crash with Serious Bodily Injury, and Aggravated Battery Great Bodily Harm and Deadly Weapon. She was transported to Orient Road Jail without incident.
The victim was transported to Tampa General Hospital with life-threatening injuries.
