- Tampa, FL
The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office posted Request for Proposal (RFP) 18-19 for Body Worn Cameras (BWC) and Data Management System (System) on June 30, 2019. The award of this RFP is contingent on the successful completion of testing as well as other factors. The testing strategy will evaluate the performance and other criteria of the BWC and System from qualified proposers that meet certain requirements, specifically including but not limited to inclusion of a firearm holster activation. RFPs are due by July 31, 2019, and we anticipate the testing period will begin shortly after initial proposal evaluations are completed.
The Sheriff's Office will work closely with our partners at the County to identify potential funding sources for this program. The estimated costs associated with the implementation of this program for 1,200 deputies will not be known until we received more information through the RFP and assessment process. It is expected uniformed law enforcement personnel will be issued the cameras. Sheriff Chad Chronister stated, "I am confident in the professionalism and integrity of our deputies, but I recognize the need for transparency to our citizens, particularly as it relates to the use of deadly force or the drawing of a firearm."
The Sheriff and his staff members are discussing the testing strategy and working to identify deputies to participate in testing and evaluating the BWCs and related System(s). No further information is available at this time.
