Fatal traffic crash on Waters Ave.

On July 17, 2019, just before 9:30 p.m., a driver on a moped was heading westbound on Waters Avenue West approaching Camden Street. The moped was within the bike lane. A Dodge Ram dually flatbed truck was traveling eastbound in the left turn lane and began making a left (north) turn onto Camden Street.
The passenger front area of the truck hit the moped. The driver of the moped was wearing a helmet, but was ejected onto the roadway and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the Dodge remained at the scene and cooperated with detectives.
At this time no charges have been filed, but this remains an active investigation. While the investigation continues, the name of the deceased will not be released due to Marsy's Law.
HCSO is investigating a fatal traffic crash on Waters Avenue.
At 9:22 p.m. deputies were called to Waters Avenue for a serious traffic crash.
Once on scene, it was determined the crash involved a transport truck and a motorized scooter. The individual on the scooter was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the truck remained at the scene and is cooperating.
At this time all westbound lanes of Waters Ave are shut down at Camden Street, and will be for hours while the investigation continues.
