Five Ford F-150 pickup trucks capable of trekking through flood waters are being added to the patrol fleet at the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office.
Sheriff Chad Chronister is adding the new vehicles to better equip deputies
for the hurricane season.
"These trucks are unlike any other vehicle in our fleet, and we're fortunate to have them in place before the next big weather event strikes," said Sheriff Chronister. "These trucks can haul people, equipment and supplies through hurricane winds, flooding or rough terrain. We'll be able to go places our regular patrol cars just can't access in a disaster."
On Monday, July 22, Sheriff Chronister will hand over the keys to the new trucks to deputies and showcase some of the many features on the vehicles, including the emergency lights, weapons compartment and suspect transport enclosure, making the trucks capable of daily patrol use. The vehicles will be on display for the media.
