    Lightning Safety:

    Details:

Lightning is a serious and frequent threat during the summer in Tampa Bay. With "Lighting Safety Awareness Week" running from June 23-29, Sheriff Chad Chronister shared a short safety message with Hillsborough County residents on
    Tuesday through social media.

In the public service announcement (PSA), Sheriff Chronister advised residence to follow the well-known safety slogan, "When thunder roars, go indoors."

"There is no place outside that is safe when a thunderstorm is in the area," said Sheriff Chronister. "Hearing thunder means lightning is close by, so seek shelter."

He advised residents to stay away from windows and doors once they are inside and to avoid using electrical appliances.

"Remember, you can always call 911 if you fear that someone has been struck by lightning and needs immediate help," said Sheriff Chad Chronister.
