Traffic crash involving HCSO vehicle
A traffic crash involving two Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office deputies has shutdown a portion of U.S. Highway 301 in the Wimauma area. Heavy delays are expected for drivers.
Around 1:30 p.m., the driver of a Kia Sportage stopped in the road southbound on U.S. Highway 301 south of 674. The driver of a Honda CRV, also headed southbound, attempted to swerve right to avoid running into the back of the Kia. The Honda CRV struck the rear of the Kia, pushing the vehicle left, across the double yellow line, and into a Ford Taurus driven by an HCSO detective. Another deputy was in the passenger seat of the vehicle.
Both deputies were transported to Tampa General Hospital with minor injuries. The driver of the Kia was transported to St. Joseph's South. U.S. Highway 301 is shutdown north of the crash at Ayersworth Glen Blvd. Drivers should expect delays during their evening commute.
