In an effort to accurately reflect the current practices within the office, Sheriff Chad Chronister is pleased to announce an update to the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office Equal Opportunity Employment Policy.
Sheriff Chronister says the changes reflect, in writing, the already present inclusive nature and practices within HCSO which help reflect the community it serves.
The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office is a team of more than 3,500 people. The diversity within HCSO has always been a point of pride for the command staff. In an effort to make sure that continues, Sheriff Chronister updated the Equal Employment Opportunity policy into one formalized, Standard Operating Procedure. Originally, the policies and practices were located in policy statements.
"We believe that diversity and inclusion among our applicants and employees is critical to our success as a community partner," said Sheriff Chronister. "I think there should not be a business, an organization or any type of gathering where someone would allow any type of bias or discrimination of any form. We will not tolerate discrimination in our workplace on any basis, including race, religion, sexual orientation or gender identity."
Sheriff Chronister has always believed that merit is what should determine if someone is hired or promoted.
The Equal Employment Opportunity Policy now reads, in part;
"It is the policy of the Sheriff's Office to recruit and employ persons without regard to race, color, religion, sex, pregnancy, national origin, age, physical/mental disability, marital status, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, genetic information, military/veteran status, and any other characteristic protected by applicable law."
